The Nutrisystem Diet is based on offering pre-packaged foods that are specially formulated and portioned for weight loss.
The Nutri System includes meals and snacks as well as offering online support and telephone consultations.

So how does it work?...
The plan is mainly a portion control program that works by pre-determining the foods that each dieter will eat and offering them very little to no input which eliminates opportunities for temptation and mistakes.
Pre-packaged meals and snacks are formulated to be balanced, being 60% carbohydrates, 20% protein, and 20% fat.
By restricting calories and keeping portions small, dieters can achieve weight loss on the diet plan.
Another important aspect of the Nutrisystem Diet is the support system which includes opportunities to interact with diet counsellors over the phone or the internet.
The Diet Plan...
The ready-made, pre-packaged meals are provided three times a day and serve as complete substitutes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A snack is also provided.
Because there is no room for dieters to stray, this keeps people on track that would otherwise stray because of temptation.
The regimen also includes exercise and regular contact with the support staff over the phone or the internet.
Is it good for you?...
The Nutrisystem Diet pre-packaged meals themselves are balanced, which is healthy. However they may contain too much sodium or other additives that should be restricted for some people.
The way that people lose weight on this plan is by the lower amount of calories in combination with exercise, which is a healthy way to lose weight.
The meals can be costly however, and there is no program for weaning slimmers off of these pre-packaged meals, so people may not be able to maintain the weight loss achieved on the diet.
It is not an effective long term solution because dieters do not learn to eat in a healthy way on their own. The way that the Nutrisystem Diet restricts choices in the beginning may be good for people who have trouble with self-control issues, but it does not teach how to deal with temptations and making healthy choices on their own at the diet plans end.
